1813 Haworth's Pug (Eupithecia haworthiata)

Key features:
  • Tiny size
  • Orange/red band at base of abdomen
  • Lacks discal spot
  • Many waved lines often still visible on faded adults
  • Rounded wing shape
Confusion species: Maple Pug (has distinct discal spot and more pointed wings; Slender Pug (has discal spot and lacks orange waist band), Valerian Pug (has small discal spot, more distinct white out waved line, distinct white spot on trailing corner of wing, finer waved markings and no orange waist band). Lead-coloured Pug (lacks orange waist band).

Habitat: Where foodplant (wild and cultivated clematis) occurs - inc hedgerows, scrub, woodland, gardens.
Range: Most common south of a line from Humberside to south Wales - can be frequent at lights. Also Isle of Man and Northern Ireland.
